background

Matt began his career in the Yorkshire Dales working predominantly on bespoke houses in geographically sensitive environments before moving to Glasgow in 2010 to commence professional studies.

After graduating from the University of Strathclyde in 2016, Matt worked in Glasgow for a further 2 years, gaining experience across a range of sectors, predominantly industrial, commercial and retail. Matt became a registered architect in 2018 and moved to Bristol shortly after where he joined gcp.

Matt focussed his professional studies around the environmental design of buildings and developing autonomous buildings. His interest in this field has been extended through the completion of training courses at The Building Research Establishment and Elmhurst Energy in The Code for Sustainable Homes and Domestic Energy Assessment respectively.

experience

Matt has professional experience dating back to 2006 providing knowledge in housing, education, leisure, health, commercial and industrial. Since joining gcp, Matt has worked predominantly with sport and leisure clients in both the public and private sector, developing projects from early feasibility and inception through to planning and delivery stages. In this work Matt has acted as lead consultant to manage the design process and coordinate the inputs of other consultants and specialists.

Matt is passionate to facilitate the delivery of socially and environmentally responsible buildings. He delivers seminars relating to Net-Zero Carbon and is part of the Future Homes Hub’s working group to develop a life cycle assessment tool for residential developments. He is a certified Passivhaus Designer, Energy Assessor and Life Cycle Assessment Specialist, skills which he uses to advise clients on the most effective measures to implement in retrofit and new builds.

Work includes running comparative models for an urban cricket centre to determine the most advantageous material and thermal performance specification, taking embodied carbon, capital costs and operational costs into consideration.
